A total solar eclipse occurs on Earth about every 18 months and is extremely rare in particular locations. According to Wikipedia, 1A total solar eclipse is a rare event, recurring somewhere on Earth every 18 months on average,[38] yet is estimated to recur at any given location only every 360–410 years on average. So the two that crossed in an X over our nation only 7 years apart is exceptionally rare and tells us (symbolically) that we are in the crosshairs of massive change happening once in half a millennia.

The two total eclipses that made (what looked like) an X over the continental US were highly unusual. It was almost as if the universe was marking us for a reckoning with our shadow side. It certainly feels that way, as both eclipses happened right after and right before Trump took office. He certainly reflects the worst aspects of American culture: excess, narcissism, bullying behavior, selfishness, greed, transactional relationships, authoritarianism, the extreme Christian right, intolerance, racism, misogyny, unchecked capitalism, etc. Trump and Trumpism are the shadows we’ve been ducking for the last 80+ years.

We have a partial solar eclipse this year happening over (weirdly) Canada in a couple of weeks. Solar eclipses “take things away,” while lunar eclipses “bring new things.” At least, that’s what the astrologers I learned from said. This was always somewhat vague to me.
