Trump has illustrated an important lesson about our system. There is no accountability for the wealthy and powerful, which means we have already lost the heart of our democracy. Without equal accountability, there can be no true democracy.
We see this lesson playing out over the past 25 years in the Supreme Court, which has become a tool of the Heritage Foundation, Leonard Leo, and the extreme right-wing Republicans. From their decision to give the election to Bush in 2000 to the striking down of Roe, our democracy has been in peril, although most have not called it out or perhaps even noticed it. There has been a slow-moving right-wing coup in play started by Reagan and co-opted by Trump for his personal benefit.
Trump didn’t come out of nowhere, and the Republicans who are shocked by him are mostly shocked at his antics and hatred but not his “policies.” They love the tax policies started by Reagan that gutted social programs and brought about the most significant income inequality since the turn of the 20th century. However, 99% of all the resources aren’t enough for the uber-rich like Elon Musk, Peter Theil, and Jeff Bezos. They must create a new peasant class to fuel their empires. Trump, who is the biblical definition of the anti-Christ, does just that, but what about the poor simp in Ohio or Colorado who loves him some Trump? The people who will vote and fight for him? What’s their damage?
