If you ever listened to my podcast with Helen called, “Psychics and Psychos,” you know that the nodes play a staring role in the charts of serial killers (also murderers and victims of murderers), but they also play a staring role in people who remember their past lives. The most famous example of this is the priest class in Tibet, and the most famous among them is the post of Dalai Lama.
We’re going to look at the many incarnations of the Dalai lama - at least the natal charts of those with public birthday information. We’ll also look at a few famous serial killers as foils to see how the nodes bend the life of the individual. Along the way, we’ll discuss how the nodes function as gateways to other lifetimes and either the mission of the individual in this life or the propensity to be sucked into the shadows of unresolved past patterns.
This is the earliest Dalai Lama I could find birth information for, and there was no birth time, but it's fine for our purposes of looking at the nodes. Solar charts are also very edifying. This one has the least nodal conjunctions of all the Dalai Lamas, and they seem to get more intense in later iterations. This Dalai Lama has the kind of chart you would expect to see a stellium (more than 3 planets conjunct) in Sagittarius. Sagittarius rules religion, the priesthood, education, dharma (good karma), and gurus. He even has Jupiter, ruler of Sagittarius, in Sagittarius. He is the archetypal good-natured, philosophical being. He would most likely have a compassionate Moon in Pisces in an out-of-sign trine to his Sun (or Aries trine his Sun). Neptune was in Scorpio when he was born, training the Moon in Pisces, giving him psychic ability.
His South Node in Cancer implies comfort in being nurtured with family. For this soul, family is important, and there is difficulty, stress, and fear surrounding accomplishing things in the world. The North Node in Capricorn indicates the soul must build something in the world even though it is hard. The post of the Dalai Lama as a political post was still relatively new during his reign. Many of the early Dalai Lamas died in childhood or early adulthood during this period. I’m not sure why this was perhaps the merger of the priesthood with the political class had something to do with it - palace intrigue - or integration of the lineage required many different iterations of the Bodhisattva (enlightened being) to accomplish it.
On one side of his nodal configuration, he has Haumea and Chiron on his north side and Ceres conjunct on his South Node. Chiron, the wounded healer, is in Capricorn about 9 degrees from the North Node. These are not tight conjunctions, so the pull is not as intense. The South Node in Cancer, with Ceres on it, intensifies the natural tendency of the soul to be nurturing, feel comfortable in family settings, and have close ties to the mother. This implies the intense difficulty in separating the young Dalai Lama from his family of origin. In this lifetime, it would have been fear of not being up to the task of building the newish Buddhist lineage of spiritual leadership and ease with nurturing and being nurtured.
