Spirit Speaks - Wave of Chaos

The other day, in meditation, the goddess Badb placed a sword in my hands. I’m not one for violence, and Badb isn’t a goddess who usually shows up. In fact, she’s never shown up before. I didn’t know much about her except that she was part of the Morrigu and a warrior. I had to google her to find out all that she was about. According to Wikipedia she is associated with the crow.

Strangely I had seen several of them in the days leading up to my encounter with her. I say strangely because I never see crows around here. We have deer that roam our backyard, turkeys and turkey vultures, a nest of house wrens on our door, turtles, frogs, and even foxes, cows, and horses, but never crows. I saw at least half a dozen of them scattered all around and on top of the small wooden chapelesque building of our local mortician as we drove our daughter to school the day before the vision. I had made a mental note of it because it was blatantly odd, a bunch of black crows all over the mortuary. It seemed something was trying to get my attention.

There was only one period in my life when I saw crows in those numbers; it was back when I went to grammar school at “Crow Island,” the year my father died. The school was named after the dozens of crows that flocked in that area. My father died while I was attending that school. It was the only year I went to that school.

Subsequently, I had seen ravens, tons of them when I lived in Los Angeles, and an occasional blackbird, but never crows. So it really stuck out all the crows gathered around that morning especially the venue they picked for their appearance.

Perhaps Badb's arrival before I met her in meditation brought the crows with her. Badb is not a goddess I was ever drawn to; she is dark and foreboding. She is the warrior side of the great triple goddess Morrigu. She makes men mad in battle and represents carnage and the death of notable people. So why did she appear in my meditation handing me a sword?
