In the dream time, houses represent us, our minds. How we feel about ourselves and our lives are reflected in the kind of house we are in.
A dark Victorian home with winding halls and staircases, secret rooms, and ghosts indicate secrets - things you must face in yourself. A dream of living in a skyscraper speaks of great ambition, a feeling you are standing out and making a significant impact. But it is not just the kind of home you’re in that is a clue to how you feel about your life and achievements; it is also where you are in the building. The upstairs in a home or building means you have lofty ideas and higher ideals; you are centered in your “superego,” as Freud would say, or as we old occultists would call it, “your higher self” (Freud borrowed the idea from metaphysics along with many other ideas.) If you are hanging around on the main floor, you are in your “middle-self” or “ego” self, where most people live between their highest impulses and animal needs. If you are in a basement or underground place, you are in your lower self or your shadow self, your “id.”
