In astrology, the moment you take your first breath is the moment your soul is manifest in the flesh. This is an ancient idea and one that was ubiquitous among people of all stripes. We don’t throw a birth chart for the moment of conception for several reasons but the main reason is conception doesn’t mean the baby will be born. Just as ideas that cross one’s mind don’t always get acted on, the conception of a baby doesn’t always mean the arrival of a soul on earth. So as the soul arrives and merges with the flesh through the act of the first breath, the imprinted energy of the stars is seared as a map into the life of the individual.
The start of anything is imprinted with the energy of that time. It’s how we make charts of corporations, marriages, new careers, books, new products, etc. Anything that goes out into the world takes on a life of its own based on the energy of the moment it sets sail. We also progress charts in different ways, a day for a year, a month for a year, a solar arc, a degree for a year, etc. All of these ideas work. These imaginary invented progressions are often uncannily accurate, more so than the transits which are the actual movements of the planets around the natal chart.
